Paychex LPGA Girls’ Shootout 2010

It’s summer in Rochester and the golfers are back. On Sunday, June 20, Locust Hill Country Club hosted the Third Annual LPGA Girls’ Shootout sponsored by Paychex. Local high school golfers got the thrill of their budding sports careers—playing nine holes with an LPGA pro! They got to meet the ladies up close and personal, observe their professional style, and collect pointers on how to improve their own games. This year’s date happened to be Father’s Day, so many Dads got to join the fun as their daughter’s caddy.

It was a beautiful day on the course, and I had a great time documenting all the fun and excitement.

Late Summer Desert Trek

When I go on vacation, I need another vacation after I get home just to recuperate! Sunrise shoots mean you start out before dawn. Sunset shoots mean you stay until the last light has faded below the horizon. These few hours are what photographers call the “sweet light.” It can be stressful and tiring; and at the same time exhilarating, exciting, inspiring, and “so worth” whatever effort it took to get there. It’s what the passion is all about.

This year’s vacation adventure took us west to the Mojave Desert in California for ten days in late September. Our first stop was Joshua Tree National Park, home of the twisted, spiky, and prickly oddity called the Joshua tree. It looks part cactus but is actually a giant member of the lily family and grows but a mere one-half inch in one year.

Then we traveled north to Death Valley National Park—the hottest, driest, and lowest place in North America. I have photographed this wonderful, wild sanctuary before, in awe of the rolling sand dunes and crusty salt flats. Badwater Basin is 282 feet below sea level! But I had not been able to visit the Racetrack. The passion drew me back to this “field” of cracked clay and solitary stones devoid of vegetation.

You can drive to the Racetrack on your own, but we reconsidered when the Park Ranger told us they would only rescue stranded people from the desert heat—not your vehicle. We hired a Pink Jeep—specially equipped for navigating rugged, off-road terrain—that came with a guide. Twenty-four miles of rocky, bone-jarring, dirt road later we arrived at the parched lakebed. How did the stones get out there? Current theory suggests the stones are moved by strong winter winds once it has rained enough to fill the lakebed with just enough water to make the surface muddy and slippery. It’s amazing, eerie, and one of nature’s mysteries, for no one has ever actually seen a stone move.

I could not leave without one last trek back into the desert. What fun it would be to come back some day with a model . . . .

Siobhan and Peter

Siobhan and Peter were united in marriage on September 19, 2009. Close family and friends attended the early evening ceremony at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester. The city landscape, in sweet light near dusk, provided an edgy backdrop for some beautiful and classic photography. Then the celebration moved to the Inn on Broadway for an elegant reception with dinner and dancing in the Grand Ballroom. Everyone enjoyed a fabulous evening!

Sara and Chris

Sara and Chris said “I do” on August 14, 2009, in the quaint North Ontario United Methodist Church in Ontario. They were surrounded by family and friends for the late afternoon ceremony.

The wedding party moved just next door for formal pictures on the beautiful grounds of the Heritage Square Museum. Webster Golf Club hosted the reception. Their carefully manicured gardens were the perfect setting for some romantic poses. Everyone celebrated the happy occasion with dinner and dancing.

Jessen and Michael

Jessen and Michael pledged their love on August 8, 2009. They created a lovely setting for their wedding on the Alfred State College campus with an intricate arch built especially for this happy occasion by Jessen’s Dad and a friend. The afternoon, al fresco ceremony concluded just before the raindrops fell.

Everyone gathered inside at Lake Lodge near the campus for a festive reception with dinner and dancing. We are honored that you chose TJT Photography to preserve your wedding memories and wish you prosperity and happiness.

Melissa and Brian

Melissa and Brian tied the knot on July 31, 2009. The bride and her maids began their exciting day at Dolce Salon in Pittsford, sipping champagne through hair and makeup. From there they boarded the red trolley for a ride to Bethlehem Lutheran Church where family, friends, and Melissa’s elementary school class had gathered for the afternoon ceremony. Melissa’s students posed for a group shot with the bride and groom on the church steps.

The red trolley carried the bridal party to the beautiful University of Rochester campus for formal portraits and some playful candids. Then it was on to Harro East Ballroom where the couple and their guests dined and danced to tunes spun by Steve Turner from Turner Music.

Congratulations Melissa and Brian! It was an honor to document your most special day. Thank you for choosing TJT Photography.

Kristin and James

Kristin and James were married on July 25, 2009, at romantic Belhurst Castle on Seneca Lake. They had a lovely, sunny day for the afternoon ceremony outside on the lawn. The picturesque lakeshore provided a beautiful backdrop for some stunning photography. A professional cigar roller created hand-made cigars—a unique favor for the guests. The party moved inside for dinner and dancing on into the night. We are very pleased that Kristin and James chose TJT Photography to capture their treasured memories and wish them a long and happy life together.

Sara and Jesse said “I do” on July 11, 2009. They chose a most unique location for their early evening ceremony—the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The lovely grounds provided the perfect setting for outdoor portraits in the sweet light of approaching sunset. Guests had the pleasure of exploring the Museum exhibits during our shoot. One family group chose the hairy mastodon exhibit as the background for their portrait! Everyone enjoyed the fun.

The fourth floor was transformed into a dining room complete with dance floor. Dinner was served and the bride and groom and their guests sipped champagne and danced as the sunset washed the sky with color. Paychex LPGA Girls’ Shootout

This past week I had the pleasure of documenting the Paychex LPGA Girls’ Shootout at Locust Hill Country Club. This event teams three local Section 5 high school golfers with an LPGA pro golfer for a six-hole shootout. Five pros came out to shoot with the girls, including legendary icon, and past winner of the Rochester tournament, Nancy Lopez. The girls got to rub elbows with the pros who shared experiences, favorite tips, and pointers to improve their game. It was a chance to “play in the big leagues” on a very picturesque and famous course. A beautiful day made for a great outing!
